Gaurav Dixit, who is pursuing BBA in Marketing at School of Management Sciences-Apeejay Stya University (ASU), was fortunate enough to be able to spend considerable time at the university campus before moving to online classes due to Covid. He recalls how he participated in extra-curricular activities and interacted with teachers while on campus. The first-semester student has got his first internship opportunity as well. In an interview, Gaurav and his mother Kusum tell us why they opted for ASU, future plans, and more. Edited excerpts:

How did you choose to apply at Apeejay Stya University?

Gaurav: Apeejay Stya University was among my top choices since many of my cousins had also studied there.

Kusum: With many alumni in our family, we did not have to think much before enrolling our son in ASU. I supported my son’s decision.

Why did you opt for a BBA in Marketing?

Gaurav: The dean, Dr Sunil Roy, suggested the course after my interview since I had a better grasp on the subject as compared to Finance. So far, I have been enjoying the classes.

Kusum: Gaurav discussed the prospects with his father Rajendra Dixit, a CRPF personnel posted in Srinagar, before taking admission.

You have attended classes online as well as at the campus. Tell us about your experience.

Gaurav: We had physical classes initially after which we went into the virtual mode owing to the new Covid variant. Second semester onwards, we will again be having classes at the campus. The experience was good. I got the opportunity to play a badminton tournament on Sports Day, which is something I cherish.

Since our classes were being held in the hybrid mode, we were able to closely interact more often with the professors. They are very helpful and approachable. Besides, the department frequently organises academic seminars, which helps us understand concepts and learn better.

Kusum: Gaurav has given me positive feedback on the classes and the faculty. I am happy with his progress.

Are you getting internship opportunities?

Gaurav: I recently cleared the interview for an internship with Insplore Consultants, which is scheduled to begin in June. Manish Sharma sir helped me prepare for the interview. He gave me tips on how to speak to the recruiter, the topics to focus on, etc.

Kusum: My son is showing a lot of improvement not just in academics but in his overall personality. He is a lot more confident now.

What are your future plans?

Gaurav: I want to pursue an MBA in Marketing, preferrably from ASU itself.

Kusum: I believe parents should not impose their decisions on their children. As a mother, I am always ready to encourage my son to pursue his interests. He has our full support.
