Arijit RoyMohammad Anas works as the Senior Sales Officer at Berger Paints in Firozpur, Punjab. He pursued his MBA from Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering, Technical Campus,Jalandhar and further bagged a job during campus placement.
With almost two years of work experience, Mohammad shares a special anecdote about his placement process. He mentions that he had vowed to work at Berger Paints before the selection and how after much training, his goal became a reality.
Read edited excerpts:
You were campus placed right?
Yes, I got placed at Berger Paints in November of 2021. I still remember the entire journey. We, students, first got the link to fill the application form in August of 2021. Then after the first round based on the shortlisting of forms, I appeared in a month for an aptitude test. Then in October of the same year, we had a regional interview round. And in the final round in November, out of the fifteen selected, eleven students made it to the confirmed placement.
AIMETC must have trained you hard for the selection process?
AIMETC began training me from the very moment I cleared my aptitude test. I was made to work hard for the interview rounds. Our DPO Kamal Khera sir along with Dr. Ajwinder Dhillon prepared us for the GD round i.e. the group discussion on sales and marketing with many interesting questions. We had some 4-5 mock interviews and many group discussion sessions. We were updated on how to give an effective introduction and also informed of our limitations and how to correct them.
It seems the teachers put in a lot of effort behind every student. Please share how?
Absolutely! I would also like to thank all the teachers and especially my mentor Dr Rajan Chaudhary. I have a small anecdote as well. During the mentorship meeting in the campus, I had told everyone, students and teachers alike, that I aspire to get placed with the Berger Paints. I told them that this company alone was my target and I would surely get into this. The teachers and students were amazed back then.
Recently, I spoke to some teachers and they told me that they still feel inspired telling my story to the current students, that how I not only achieved my goal, but also lived up to my words.
What fascinated you about Berger Paints?
The work culture here is heaven. We have work-life balance and the timings are also flexible. There is a faith in the employee. We have to focus on achieving the sales numbers and we are given much freedom for that.
We inform the area manager in case of an emergency and our situational constraints are respected. In case of ill-health, I simply make the calls from the home or do the accounts work at Excel. All the seniors in the company are supportive too. We have a good environment here like a school or college. No place for corporate politics here!
Your future aim?
I have a simple goal: To become a manager and lead someday!
Lastly, speak briefly about your time at AIMETC?
The decision to pursue an MBA from AIMETC changed my personal and professional life for the better. It is not just that I got placement into a reputed company which is a big brand. But, I say this from experience that my colleagues in this company pursued their MBA from other private universities. These universities charged them a way of hefty fees. However the fees at AIMETC, is nothing compared to their colossal amounts. And we at AIMETC also get the best of placements and teachers as well. It is a win-win situation!
