Patriotism, a profound love and devotion for one’s country, stands as a cornerstone in shaping the character and values of our youth. It is a force that binds individuals to a shared sense of identity, purpose, and belonging. For students, embracing patriotism is not merely an act of allegiance, but a crucial step towards understanding their role as responsible citizens in a larger societal tapestry. It instills a profound appreciation for the sacrifices of those who came before, and a sense of duty towards safeguarding the nation’s legacy for generations to come.

Through the lens of patriotism, students gain a deeper understanding of their country’s history, culture, and values, fostering a strong sense of civic responsibility and a commitment to positive change. This cherished sentiment not only fuels a collective spirit of unity, but also serves as an enduring beacon, guiding the way towards a future built on the principles of freedom, justice, and progress.

Recently, Apeejay School Rama Mandi in Jalandhar, resonated with patriotic fervour as it commemorated Gandhi Jayanti and the birth anniversary of the illustrious Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of independent India. The school’s precincts came alive with traditional zeal as students and faculty paid homage to these iconic figures.

The event commenced with the soul-stirring rendition of Gandhiji‘s cherished bhajan ‘Vaishnav Janto,’ setting an introspective tone for the proceedings. Next, Sukhmani, a student of class X delivered an insightful thought, setting the stage for a journey through the lives of these eminent leaders. Veer Zorawar Singh from class IX illuminated the life and ideals of the ‘Father of the Nation,’ while Jasmeet Kaur (class X) provided a vivid account of late Lal Bahadur Shastri’s remarkable journey.

In a poignant recitation, Aishpreet Kaur of class IX encapsulated the essence of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideologies through verse. Arshavi Verma, also of the same class, apprised the audience of the valiant contributions of Sardar Bhagat Singh in India’s struggle for freedom. The assembly was further enriched with enlightening videos chronicling the indomitable spirits of these three stalwarts of the Indian freedom movement.

The graceful choreography performed by the girls of classes IX and X beautifully encapsulated Gandhiji‘s fundamental principles, adding a visual dimension to the tribute. Principal Mr AK Sharma, in his address, urged the students to imbibe the twin virtues of strength and non-violence espoused by Gandhiji. He emphasised the importance of facing life’s challenges with unwavering courage and holding one’s head high, drawing inspiration from the indelible legacy of Lal Bahadur Shastri. Mr Sharma regaled the audience with anecdotes from the life of the valiant Sardar Bhagat Singh, instilling a sense of reverence for the sacrifices made by our forefathers.

As we reflect on this commemoration, it becomes evident that such events hold invaluable significance for the students. They serve as living history lessons, imparting a deep-seated understanding of our nation’s struggle for freedom and the ideals that continue to shape our identity. The celebration underscores the enduring relevance of values like non-violence, resilience, and unwavering determination in the face of adversity.

Participation in such events is not merely an academic exercise, but a call to embrace one’s role as a responsible citizen. It encourages an active engagement with our nation’s past, fostering a sense of belonging and pride in our shared heritage. By celebrating the lives of these luminaries, we acknowledge the debt we owe to those who paved the way for our present freedoms.

In the hallowed halls of Apeejay School Rama Mandi, the echoes of Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri’s birth anniversary served as a poignant reminder that history is not confined to textbooks—it lives on in the hearts and actions of every citizen. May the legacy of these great leaders continue to inspire generations to come!
