Ankush is a Business Development Executive at SBI Life, Malerkotla branch in Punjab. His designation may look fancy, but his job profile is highly complex. He has to oversee the banking insurance of eight different branches on a daily basis. During the interview, the alumnus of Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus, who specialised in marketing and finance, says MBA taught him public dealing skills that will help him in his entrepreneurial journey, he is planning to begin later in life.

Business development seems a unique profession? What all work does it entail?

I have eight branches of SBI to look after within my district. I handle the banking insurances of these branches. I also look after the ideas on how to grow the business models for each one of them.

Throwback to AIMETC days! Tell us about some best moments?

Well, I did not get to attend the campus life fully there. For the first few months, we were attending online classes due to the pandemic. Then the campus reopened when the number of cases reduced. That made us happy as we could attend the classes physically and explore the campus. But as luck would have it, the virus struck again and we again had to return to the online mode of education. But nevertheless, I really enjoyed my time at AIMETC.

What all changes do you see in yourself after doing an MBA?

At AIMETC, they polished my communication skills during the MBA. I gained a lot of confidence which now helps me in client dealing. They taught us at AIMETC how to effectively conduct ourselves during an interview and worked on our body language, vocabulary, among other things. In a nutshell, the MBA course groomed my overall personality.

But what inspired you to pursue an MBA?

Coming from a humble household, I never thought that I would do an MBA. But with the course of time, I found that an MBA would develop the business sense in me. This will later help me become an entrepreneur in life. I learnt how to handle customers, basically picked up a lot on public dealing. I also learned about marketing, which is a top skill in today’s time.

A quick tip for current students

This is the time where you can both study and play! Life will get hard after this, all friends will take their respective career paths and things will change. So, take advantage of every moment and live it to the fullest.

Lastly, your future targets?

I want to work at Amazon and then eventually start my business.
