In an extraordinary achievement that has sent waves of inspiration throughout the nation, Vani Gupta, an alumna of Apeejay School, Noida, has triumphed over the challenges and cracked the highly competitive JEE Advanced examinations this year. Vani’s exceptional dedication and hard work over the years have paid off, earning her an impressive AIR – 91 and a well-deserved spot at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. What makes Vani’s achievement even more noteworthy is her role in challenging gender stereotypes prevalent in the male-dominated field of engineering. She is the only second girl to have cracked the papers with a striking score of 287/360.
The talented girl says, “I started preparing for the said examinations from class 9 onwards. I never studied for the exams alone; I simply enjoyed the subjects. Besides, I took coaching for it as well as learnt from my teachers at school.” The good wishes and congratulations are still pouring in for Vani and her family. Needless to say that her teachers and mentors are proud of her.
A Journey Fuelled by Dedication and Hard Work:
Vani’s journey to success in the JEE Advanced examinations is a testament to her relentless efforts. For the past three years, she poured her heart and soul into her studies, displaying an exemplary work ethic that is beyond her years. Balancing academic demands with extracurricular activities, Vani demonstrated exceptional time management skills and perseverance. In the future, she hopes to become a Computer Science engineer.
Coming from a Family of IITians:
She hails from a family deeply rooted in the pursuit of excellence in academics. Her father and sibling are accomplished IITians themselves, serving as a constant source of inspiration and guidance. She says, “My elder brother Varun Gupta, an alumnus of Apeejay, Noida also cracked the examinations. He is currently working at Microsoft. Besides, my father, Mr Brajesh Gupta is an IITian too. Currently, he is running his own venture.” Their unwavering support and encouragement played a pivotal role in shaping Vani’s aspirations and instilling in her the belief that no goal is too high to achieve.
Breaking Stereotypes:
Vani’s accomplishment truly goes beyond her academic success. As a young woman in a field traditionally dominated by males, she has shattered societal stereotypes and proved that gender should never be a barrier to pursuing one’s dreams. Her achievement serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for countless other girls who aspire to excel in the field of engineering. “I didn’t feel any pressure to ace the JEE examinations. Rather I was motivated and inspired by my father and brother,” she says. She also mentioned how she closely observed her brother while he was writing his JEE examinations a few years ago. According to her, to ace such an exam, one needs to be consistent and focused.
Surely, her stellar result didn’t come in a day. There were several ups and downs in her pursuit too. She says, “As I attempted the many mock tests, the scores kept varying. But I did not want to stop.” She beautifully managed it all as well as scored a whopping 97.8% in the CBSE Class 12 Board examinations. To de-stress herself, she often relied on sitcoms, friends and mentors. Besides, she enjoys engaging in dance, art, table tennis and swimming.
Inspiration for the Next Generation:
An inspiration for young minds across the nation, her success is a reminder that with hard work, dedication, and the right support system, one can overcome any obstacle and reach for the stars. By challenging gender norms and excelling in a field often deemed ‘unsuitable’ for women, Vani has become a role model, paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in the field of engineering.
Sharing her advice for future aspirants, Vani says, “It is important to enjoy what you study. The journey of preparation can be tough, therefore, a genuine interest in these subjects will keep you going. Focus on your weak areas and try to self-assess. Have your concepts cleared up in time. Finally, don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers/mentors if you feel low. They will show you the right path.” Vani credits all her school teachers, mentors as well as family for her success.
Joining the Prestigious IIT Delhi:
With her exceptional performance in the JEE Advanced examinations, she is ready to embark on a new chapter in her academic journey. Vani is poised to make significant contributions to the field of engineering. Her journey at IIT Delhi will undoubtedly be marked by the same tenacity, passion, and commitment that propelled her to this remarkable achievement. “I am very excited to begin my college,” she says.
