Empowering dreams by breaking barriers

Being a girl, leaving one’s hometown can be a significant decision, especially if you are from a small town. Although things are changing nowadays, there are still girls who aspire to achieve their dreams. But just because they are not allowed to leave home,  they have to compromise with their dreams.

I believe that stepping out of our comfort zone is the first step toward our goals. Our home is the most comfortable place for us, and our parents are the strongest pillars, supporting us in every possible way. Staying away from home and parents becomes the toughest commitment to make. However, it is the initial step toward our dreams. Although it is challenging to leave our hometown and family, if we want to be self-reliant and more responsible, it is the most necessary decision to make.

Especially as a girl in such a patriarchal society, it is essential to be self-dependent. Leaving our comfort zone or hometown makes it somewhat more manageable. To give up on one’s ambition just because of an inability to leave home and family is a trivial reason. Residing in a different city brings maturity to one’s life. Staying in PGs, hostels, etc., and arranging every little thing by ourselves, doing house chores, traveling alone, managing everything from morning to night on our own – all of these experiences help us become more mature, responsible, while  gaining confidence.

I have personally felt this after leaving my hometown. I’m fortunate that my parents supported me in making this decision and helped me take the first step toward my ambition. Being a family-oriented person, stepping out of my hometown was a painful decision for me, but I did it because I wanted to become a better version of myself—more responsible, independent, and confident. I believe that every person who has taken this step has become a better version of themselves.
