Tanmay Subhramanium Ghanti completed his 10+2 from Apeejay School, Noida. For the past two years, he kept a hawk-eye focus on the NEET exam and kept preparing consistently and what followed was no surprise – an incredible score of 623 in one of the most coveted exams of the nation.

In an exclusive conversation with the NEET champ, we come to know about his preparation strategy and how the school enabled him to give his best. Read edited excerpts:

Tanmay, what’s the magic behind such a great NEET score?

It was discipline and consistency.  I was consistent throughout class 11 and class 12 in my self-study. I completed every test series and assignments on time. Giving numerous mock tests was a very important part of my preparation, as it prepared me for the stress of a competitive exam. Discipline and consistency are the factors that really make a difference!

So how many hours of study did you put in?

8-10 hours a day. I divided my self study hours subject-wise, depending which subject and which chapter needed more work and attention.

Which subject was the strong point?

Physics was my favourite subject and I was very strong in it.  While inorganic chemistry needed more time and effort. .

And what role did your school play in your success?

I was given numerous assignments, unit tests and other exams at school. This helped me expand my confidence levels. The teachers shared questions regularly with us students. I often went to my teachers to get my doubts solved and the additional emotional support they gave me was simply so motivating.

My school friend circle had a healthy competition among themselves, we all helped each other, asked doubts and explained concepts to one another. And we all benefited from this.

That’s great. But how did you deal with exam stress?

Stress is bound to happen near the exam. Just stay strong and focus on just what is in front of you. Don’t think about what will happen if you fail. Focus on the present and that’s the trick to do well.

Excellent advice, so what’s the next step in your career?

I want to become a neurologist or cardiologist. My grandparents are also doctors. My grandfather is an orthopaedician and my grandmother is gynecologist. As a kid, I watched them serve and heal people. I got inspired from that and hope to follow in their footsteps.
