Apeejay Stya University’s School of Design and Visual Arts (SDVA) recently invited Kaanchan Salunke, an alumna and public relations (PR) professional to give industry insights to students. In an interactive session, she talked about her professional journey as well as the various facets of how PR helps in building brand identity.

Kaanchan graduated as a graphic designer from SDVA, Apeejay Stya University (ASU), and worked as a freelancer for almost five years. After her stint as an art director, she went on to explore her interest in social media marketing. Salunke is also an influencer and vlogger who has collaborated with more than 100 brands in fashion, lifestyle, hospitality, travel and more.

Salunke later moved to PR and is now working as an account executive with 80dB Communications. “The switch from creative field to marketing and now to PR has been a huge transition and during this period I have learnt a lot,” she says.

SDVA hosts similar alumni interactions about twice or thrice every year with an aim to provide industry exposure to students, says Dibyendu Tripathi, faculty-Graphic Design, SDVA, ASU, who is the coordinator for such events.

The event turned out to be very successful, leaving students with valuable insights and perspectives.
