CBSE class 10 Exam Analysis: ‘Exiting the exam hall, students wore smiles of relief’

The CBSE class X English paper was held on February 26, 2024. The three-hour question paper was divided into two parts: Theory paper- 80 marks and Internal Assessment- 20 marks, making it a total of 100 marks.

The 80-mark theory paper consists of 11 questions with three sections namely:

Reading Skills: 20 marks

Writing Skills with Grammar: 20 marks

Language through Literature: 40 marks

According to Ritu Valluri, English teacher at Apeejay School, Kharghar, this year’s Board exam analysis is as follows:

·        The question paper this year (2024) was not that difficult. The questions were quite predictable, there wasn’t any real surprise or exceptional twist in any question of any section. Except for a question in the first comprehension passage that inquired about the tone of the writer.

·        The paper covered the entire syllabus quite well. It not only asked single-chapter questions but also questions based on a combination of chapters as has been the recent trend.

·        The students came out of the exam hall with smiling faces, which was quite a relief in itself. The students generally found the paper lengthy but easy. This implies that the students had a lot of information to write about. This implicated good coaching on the subject

·        The paper was easy to score, but as usual, very time-consuming!

·        As compared to last year’s papers we can call this paper easier because it adhered to the predictability quotient.
