Field visit plays a crucial role in design education. Through visiting beautiful places, students tend to develop a better understanding and creative experience of different environments, resources and special institutions. Moreover, field visits also provide great insights into historical designs.

Thus, at Apeejay Institute of Design (AID), field visits are an integral part of the curriculum and AIDians are constantly encouraged to take up field visits or educational trips.

Aligned with this thought, AID recently organised an outdoor study tour for the students of GDP I semester along with their faculty members at Purana Qilla.

During their outdoor class, students encountered the beauty of monuments and grasped the same in their sketches. The students thoroughly enjoyed the creative experience of the session conducted in the middle of nature and live-sketched the landscape.

They drew the huge monument on a piece of paper from their fixed observation location. They also explored colours and were set free to render in mixed medium. This kind of visit broadens their horizon of observation and makes them understand the impact of creative visualisation.

As part of the curriculum, students of GDP I semester earlier attended a fabric workshop that focused on fabric composition by upcycling the waste fabric swatches into utility articles and artworks. They sourced waste fabric swatches and procured various tools required such as needles and threads. The process started by stretching the cloth on the frame as a base. Swatches of fabric were arranged to form the composition by exploring the juxtaposition of colours, tones and pattern.
