In a world dominated by conventional career choices like engineering, medicine, and finance, Siddharth Kuhad, an alumnus of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, chose a path less traveled. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Journalism and Mass Communication at IP University’s main campus, Siddharth is a testament to following one’s passion. In this heartfelt interview, his father, Mr. Mahesh Kumar, a Delhi Police officer, shares insights into Siddharth’s journey, his love for humanities, the role of his school, and the values he holds dear. Read edited excerpts:

Siddharth is pursuing Journalism and Mass Communication. What inspired him to choose this field in a world where traditional careers dominate?
Siddharth has always been self-driven, and we, as parents, never pressured on his choices. He opted for the Humanities stream in school, which naturally excluded conventional career paths like engineering or computers. He appeared for entrance exams and decided to pursue Journalism and Mass Communication.

Why Humanities? Was there a particular inspiration behind this choice?
I believe it’s partly because of our family background. My father served in the Delhi Police, and I’m also in the force. Our domestic environment involves discussions about social, political, and legal matters. This atmosphere may have influenced his interest in social sciences.

So, would you say it’s in his genes or more about his surroundings?
While I wouldn’t outrightly say it’s in his genes, the environment certainly played a significant role. But more than that, we’ve always focused on his all-round development. I’ve guided him to be a good person with a balanced personality. Education is important, but so is physical fitness, a sense of humour, and emotional intelligence.

Apart from sports, did Siddharth participate in any other extracurricular activities?
Yes, of late, he’s developed a keen interest in rap music, which he practices at home. In school, he was also active in various events and competitions, particularly excelling in Political Science and English.

What is one piece of advice to Siddharth as he forges ahead in his journey?
My advice has always been simple: Be a good person, no matter what you become. Pursue your interests, make your own choices, but always stay grounded and true to your values.
