Apeejay School of Management (ASM) , Dwarka recently held a workshop on Gender Neutrality and Prevention of Sexual Harassment against Women, as a part of its Vyaktitv II initiative. The workshop was organised by Dr. Pooja Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor, Accounting and Finance at ASM. It aimed at raising awareness about the importance of gender neutrality while educating participants on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013.

The workshop began with a discussion on the true meaning of sexual harassment. Dr. Ishita Adhikari, Associate Professor HR and Head CRC at ASM, highlighted that the POSH Act, 2013 aims to prevent sexual harassment against women in the workplace. She further emphasised, “The law requires employers to create a safe and harassment-free workplace for their female employees and provides a mechanism for women to report incidents of sexual harassment.”
The key speaker at the session also mentioned that sexual harassment is a form of gender-based violence that can occur in various settings, including the workplace. She explained that this involves unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favours, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work or educational environment.

Dr. Adhikari also highlighted the importance of the creation of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) in workplaces, with more than ten employees, which are responsible for receiving and addressing complaints of incidents related to sexual harassment. She also stressed why it’s also imperative to promote a culture of respect and tolerance in the workplace, as that can go a long way in preventing incidents of sexual harassment.
This one-day workshop provided an opportunity for participants to engage in meaningful discussions on various aspects of gender neutrality and sexual harassment. The session also focused on the role of different stakeholders in creating a safe and respectful workplace environment.
Overall, the workshop was a valuable initiative to create awareness about gender neutrality and to educate participants on the POSH Act, 2013. Budding professionals realised the need to take steps towards creating a more equitable and harassment-free workplace for women.
