Tannishtha Rai, a bright and humble student of Class XI from Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, was honoured with the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values for the academic year 2024-25. In an exclusive interview, she opened up about her journey, inspirations, and what this honour means to her.
How do you feel after receiving the Dr Stya Paul Award?
Honestly, I was very surprised! I had a regular conversation with the Principal ma’am, and didn’t expect anything more. When I found out I had received the award, it felt unbelievable.
Tell us a little about yourself.

I am in class XI student now and received the Dr Stya Paul Human Values Award last year. I believe that this award is not just about my efforts, but truly reflects the values imparted by my parents, teachers, and the influence of good friends. I’ve seen how bad company can impact people, so I feel lucky to have had such positive influences around me.
What are your plans?
I plan to pursue the Medical stream. Both my parents are doctors, and my brother will be appearing for NEET next year. I trust their guidance and will follow it as I move ahead.
Besides academics, what are your hobbies?
I am a classical dancer and I also enjoy playing the guitar. I’ve been learning guitar in a private class from my teacher. I play badminton occasionally. I do try my hand at other sports, but I’m not as regular.

Human values are core to this award. How do you try to uphold them in your daily life?
I feel we’re still very young to make big decisions on our own. That’s why I try to follow the advice of my parents and teachers. Whether academic or non-academic, I trust their guidance completely because I know they want the best for me.
Who has been your biggest inspiration when it comes to values?
Dr Stya Paul himself. Despite suffering from physical challenges, he never gave up and faced every challenge with courage. That quality of resilience is something I admire and hope to follow in my life.
Has the school environment helped shape your values?
Yes, very much. School gives us exposure to society and helps us become strong individuals who can deal with challenges, even in the absence of our parents.
Do you have a special memory from Class VIII that you’d like to share?
Yes! My friend shifted to America last year. Before leaving, she made a beautiful memorial card and collected signatures from every student in the class. It’s a memory I cherish.
