Himanshu Gupta was curious about ad campaigns from a young age. He would often wonder how the ad algorithm worked, selecting the interested audience every time.  Gradually, he learnt more about it and now works as the Performance Executive at Havas Media. In a quick interview, the alumnus from Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC)  mentions how he manages all campaigns at work as well as reviews and optimises them as need be. Read edited excerpts:

What all work do you do in a day at the office?

My work is all about ad campaigns. I set up the  campaigns and it is also my domain to optimise and track them. I also review and suggest changes. So, my regular day at work revolves around the particular campaign in motion.

What inspired you to be a part of this sector?

I would see all these ads on Google and other platforms on the internet. And that got me curious as to how the ad and the algorithm were choosing a target audience. So, I too felt a desire within me and wanted to learn more about this and work in this field. I set up the ad campaigns at work and help my company reach a larger and interested audience.

Throwback to AIMC days: Any special memory?

AIMC was a great time and there are so many special memories. I learnt a lot there, especially essential skills such as camera handling, image editing, and photoshop, which I use frequently even now. They groomed my presentation skills and boosted my self confidence as well.

One life lesson for the current students at AIMC?

I would say never be afraid of public speaking. I have made many mistakes and let go of numerous opportunities due to this fear of mine. At AIMC, I learnt to tackle this fear and slowly began to understand how to let go of it. AIMC really helped me polish myself. I improved greatly in my spoken English and now I am placed in a multinational corporation. I learnt to present my work confidently and conduct myself with a high self-esteem. All thanks to the faculty at AIMC.

Lastly, where do you see yourself in the next five years?

I want to stay in the same organisation and progress with each day. I aim to become a manager someday. Slow and steady at work, learning with every opportunity.
