Dr Anupama Diwan, dean, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Apeejay Stya University, has edited a book titled “Novel Drug Delivery System”. She has also co-authored some chapters in the book, which will be released soon, along with other experts in the field.

The book covers themes outlined in the “B Pharm Novel Drug Delivery Systems-Theory Syllabus of PCI as per the Revised Regulations in the 2016-17 academic year.” It explores how drug delivery can be optimised by enhancing effectiveness while reducing toxicity.

“We have made significant progress in this area, but we are still a long way off. The subject of Controlled and Novel Drug Delivery is dynamic, with literature and patents reporting ever-increasing improvements, and it is the goal of this author to transmit the most recent knowledge to students and teachers,” the book mentions.

Comprising 20 chapters, the book covers topics like “role of polymer in drug delivery systems”, “gastro-retentive drug delivery system”, “strategies for improvement of drug permeation through skin”, “an overview of topical formulations”, “oral disintegrating tablet”, “implantable drug delivery systems”, and more.

Professor (Dr) Diwan said, “To enhance bioavailability and reduce side effects conventional approaches of drug delivery have been replaced over time by novel approaches. In this edited book, we have tried to include all such novel methods of drug delivery under one umbrella with an aim to give basic information on novel drug delivery systems (NDDS) to budding pharmacists. The book has been written by authors in the most simplified manner to help them understand well.”

The others authors of the book are Dr Narender Yadav, Manoj Kumar Sharma, Dr Gufran Ajmal, Dr Rani Mansuri, Shekhar Sharma, Dr Kapil Kumar, Lopamudra Roy, Sumit Tewatia, Dr Shaivad Shabeehul Hasan Abadi, Dr Mukesh Kumar Kumawat, Dr Mohammad Rashid Iqbal, and Dr Sheetal Patel.
