Meta AI on WhatsApp: A game-changer in digital communication

Meta has integrated its advanced AI assistant, Meta AI, into WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram, powered by the proprietary large language model, LLaMA 3. This upgrade promises smarter, faster, and more personalised interactions across these platforms.
Meta AI, trained on a vast dataset of 15 trillion tokens, offers human-like responses and a range of functionalities within these apps. Users can access it on a desktop via meta.ai, though it currently supports only English in India. The AI can generate content, delve into topics, and complete tasks without leaving the app. If Meta AI can’t find information from its model, it accesses the internet for answers.
To use Meta AI on WhatsApp, ensure the app is updated. On iOS, the Meta AI access ring appears next to the camera icon; on Android, it’s above the group chat plus icon. In group chats, typing @MetaAI in the input box triggers the assistant. After accepting the terms, users can interact with Meta AI by typing prompts and sending messages.
Meta AI enhances productivity by offering instant idea generation, topic exploration, and sharing capabilities. It maintains conversation flow, eliminating the need for external apps like Google or ChatGPT. The AI can engage in casual or formal conversations, generate photorealistic images from descriptions, and serve as a search assistant by pulling relevant web answers.
While Meta AI is a robust tool for organising notes, generating ideas, and getting news updates, it has limitations. In group chats, it may sometimes provide irrelevant answers. Additionally, image generation may still appear AI-generated.
At present, there’s no direct method to disable Meta AI on WhatsApp. While it can be muted on Facebook and Instagram, WhatsApp users are advised to delete the Meta AI chat thread to remove it from their contacts.
Meta AI on WhatsApp represents a significant leap in integrating AI with daily communication, streamlining tasks, and enhancing user experience.
