Young minds make smart moves on International Chess Day
Strategy, focus, and sportsmanship take centre stage at Apeejay School, Model Town
Recently, Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, marked International Chess Day with a special assembly and an Inter-class Chess Competition. The celebration brought students together to understand how the game strengthens the mind while also teaching patience, discipline, and thoughtful decision-making.
The special assembly was organised for students of Classes I to V. It introduced them to the wider significance of chess beyond winning and losing.
Understanding the value of chess
Students learnt how every move requires attention, planning, and careful judgment. The assembly explained that regular practice can help develop strategic thinking, concentration, logical reasoning, and patience. It also encouraged young learners to see chess as a useful tool for intellectual growth and lifelong learning.
The message was simple. A good player does not rush. Each move is considered, its possible result is studied, and the next step is planned. These habits are equally useful in the classroom and in everyday life.
A display of skill and focus
Students of Classes VI to VIII took part in the Chess Competition with great enthusiasm. The participants displayed strong analytical skills and remained focused throughout the matches.
The competition also tested their ability to stay calm under pressure. Students had to think ahead, respond to changing situations, and make decisions within the course of the game. Their conduct reflected a healthy spirit of competition and respect for fellow players.
Aryan Khullar of Class VII-A secured the first position. Arjun Khullar, also from Class VII-A, stood second, while Arpan Nagpal of the same class earned the third position.
The school congratulated the winners as well as every participant for their performance and sportsmanship.
The celebration showed students that chess is more than a board game. Every move can become a step towards sharper thinking, stronger concentration, and wiser choices, both on the chessboard and in life.
