Learning stepped beyond the classroom as the Nursery, Junior KG, and Senior KG students of Apeejay School, Kharghar, embarked on an engaging theme-based excursion centred on Our Neighbourhood. Designed to provide experiential learning, the visit helped young learners explore the world around them while understanding the importance of various community spaces and the people who serve them.

Accompanied by their teachers, the students visited several key neighbourhood landmarks, including a garden, park, metro station, hospital, and fire station. Each stop offered valuable opportunities for the children to observe, interact, and learn about the vital role these places play in everyday life. The excursion encouraged them to connect classroom concepts with real-life experiences, making learning both meaningful and memorable.

Throughout the visit, the children gained a deeper understanding of the work of different community helpers and the essential services they provide. They learned how doctors and healthcare professionals care for people in hospitals, how metro services help citizens travel safely and efficiently, and how public parks and gardens contribute to a healthy and green environment. The experience also reinforced the values of gratitude, respect, and appreciation for the individuals who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of society.

One of the most exciting moments of the excursion was the visit to the Fire Station, where firefighters warmly welcomed the students and introduced them to their life-saving responsibilities. The children watched an informative demonstration on how fires are extinguished and were fascinated by the specialised equipment, protective gear, and fire engines used during rescue operations. The interactive session sparked curiosity, with the young learners eagerly listening, asking questions, and gaining first-hand insights into the courage and dedication of firefighters.

The excursion blended education with exploration, allowing students to learn through observation and experience. It strengthened their understanding of their surroundings while nurturing awareness of civic responsibility and community living.

By stepping into the heart of their neighbourhood, the young learners discovered that every place and every helper contributes to building a safe, healthy, and caring community. The thoughtfully planned excursion proved to be an enriching experience that fostered curiosity, confidence, and respect for the people who make everyday life possible, leaving the children with lasting memories and valuable life lessons.
