Ananya Kilikdar has recently joined SCD India as a creative trainee. She is an Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC) alumnus and had successfully secured a campus placement.

In a brief interview, the former Advertising and Marketing Communication student mentions the importance of building networks in corporate life.
Read edited excerpts:

What all work does a creative trainee do in a day?

First, the creative team sits together and discusses about the projects in hand. We are then appointed one project each. We work on the headlines and the copies very extensively. Simultaneously, we take feedback from the client servicing team with regard to the copy to keep in mind the expectation of the clients. So, it’s a lot of work and I get to learn a lot.

What inspired you to join this field?

I always wanted to become a writer but I did not know the way. It was during my graduation years that I decided to pursue copywriting, so I made it a target that I will work in an advertising firm one day.

Did AIMC help you achieve your dream?

At AIMC, my mentors taught me every nook and corner of the creative industry – how the clients, brands and agencies work. They prepared us for that.

What are the latest copywriting trends?

It is the festive season now. In the festival months, the brands initiate different campaigns. We are working on a few campaigns on upcoming festivities currently.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

I want to see myself in the position of a senior boss, who helps and trains all the creative trainees.

One key learning from your work-ex so far?

Always ask if you have a doubt. Be direct. You have to communicate expressively. Make connections even if you have to go out of your comfort zone at times.
