The line, “Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self,” from The Bhagavad Gita, encapsulates the essence of yoga. Yoga is not merely a physical exercise; it is a holistic path of self-discovery and self-realisation. It encompasses asanas (physical postures), pranayama (breath control), meditation, and ethical principles. The importance of yoga lies in its ability to cultivate harmony between body, mind, and spirit, promoting overall well-being and inner peace.

Every year, International Yoga Day, celebrated on June 21st, highlights the global significance of yoga in fostering unity, health, and mindfulness for individuals and communities worldwide.

To mark this occasion, Apeejay School, Rama Mandi recently organised a special event to celebrate the benefits of yoga. The session saw the participation of the school’s Principal, Vice Principal, teaching, and non-teaching staff. The focus of the event was to promote the practice of yoga for physical and mental well-being.

The event began with a special session conducted by Ms. Ruchika, a Yoga Teacher at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi. She enlightened the participants about the significance of yoga and its impact on overall health and well-being. Ms. Ruchika emphasised that yoga is not just a form of exercise but a journey of self-discovery and self-improvement.

During the session, Ms. Ruchika demonstrated various yoga asanas and guided the attendees on how to perform them correctly. She highlighted the importance of proper technique and posture to reap maximum benefits from each asana. The participants were encouraged to practice yoga with ease and regularity.

While expressing her views, Ms. Ruchika said, “Yoga is not a religion; it is a way of living that aims towards ‘a healthy mind in a healthy body.’ ‘Stress’ is a buzzword of the modern world, which is surely not at all good for our physical and mental health. Yoga is a powerful antidote to stress; it has the ability to replace stress with calmness and peace. That’s the importance of yoga.”

Further addressing the participants, Mr. A.K. Sharma, Principal at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, stressed on the significance of incorporating yoga into one’s daily life. He emphasised that yoga is not only a physical activity but also a means to connect with our inner selves. Mr. Sharma urged all the participants to make yoga a regular habit for a better future, as it enables individuals to gain insight into their true selves and understand the ultimate truth of life beyond materialistic pursuits.

The event served as a reminder that yoga is not just an art or science but a way of life. It encourages individuals to embark on a journey of self-discovery, helping them develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. Through the practice of yoga, individuals can achieve physical fitness, mental clarity, and inner peace.–
