World Hindi Day: Celebrating the global influence of Hindi

World Hindi Day, observed annually on January 10, celebrates the prominence and rich heritage of the Hindi language. This day commemorates the first World Hindi Conference held in Nagpur in 1975, where efforts were initiated to promote Hindi as a global language.
Importance of World Hindi Day
According to Ms Ruby Bhatnagar, HoD, Hindi, Apeejay School, Noida, “The primary aim of World Hindi Day is to create awareness about the importance of Hindi as a global language and to encourage its use in international forums. It also celebrates the rich literary and cultural heritage of Hindi, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, and an official language of India.”
“Various events are organised across the globe to mark the occasion, including seminars, literary competitions, cultural programs, and discussions on Hindi literature and language development. Embassies of India worldwide also organize special events to celebrate the day,” added Ms Bhatnagar.
The theme for World Hindi Day 2025 focuses on “Hindi: Bridging Cultures, Building Connections,” emphasising the role of Hindi in fostering cross-cultural understanding and global communication.
