Kundalika, a picturesque river originating from the Western Ghats of Maharashtra and flowing into the Arabian Sea near Roha, offers a thrilling white water rafting experience. Surrounded by dense forests and rice fields, this river was once part of the princely state of Bhor. What makes Kundalika unique is that it’s the only river in Maharashtra suitable for white water rafting, thanks to two hydroelectric power stations at Bhira and Ravalje. The rafting adventure spans a 13 km stretch, featuring exhilarating Grade III and Grade IV rapids.

White water rafting on the Kundalika River is a must-try adventure activity in Maharashtra, introduced in 2006. The river’s flow is regulated by dams, ensuring optimum conditions for rafting. Typically, water is released from the dam around 8:15am, creating ideal rapids for rafting enthusiasts. The rafting starts from the village of Saje. After gearing up with life jackets and helmets, participants receive instructions from guides before embarking on the rafting journey.

During the two-hour rafting session, adventurers navigate thrilling rapids, indulge in body-surfing, and enjoy swimming in the pristine waters. Each raft accommodates around ten participants, accompanied by an experienced river guide. The experience promises pure aqua fun amidst the scenic beauty of the river.

For travellers seeking an adrenaline rush comparable to Rishikesh, Kundalika River is the perfect destination. Its rapids offer ideal conditions for various water sports, attracting adventurers seeking excitement. Besides rafting, visitors can explore other activities, making it an excellent choice for small groups of up to ten people.

The best time to visit Kundalika River for white water rafting and adventure sports is from June to March. During these months, the water levels are ideal, ensuring an exhilarating and unforgettable experience amidst the natural beauty of Maharashtra’s countryside.
