Mother is not just a word, it is an emotion. We are what we are due to our mothers. All through our lives, it is our duty to respect and honour the woman who brought us into this world. And within the same breath, it is also our responsibility to revere the mother tongue that enabled us to voice ourselves.

Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar recognises the importance of mother tongue. The Literary & Dramatics Club of the institute recently organised a language quiz on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.

The students across diverse courses participated in the quiz. They were evaluated on their knowledge of the Punjabi language and literature. The quiz was divided into four parts: Celebrated Punjabi Literary Writings, Renowned Literary Figures, Punjabi Grammar and Evolution of the Language.

Giving their outstanding performance, the first position was bagged by Simran Sokhi, Anshu and Sajal. Dilpreet Kaur, Harpreet Kaur and Gagandeep Kaur stood second and the third position was won by Switakshi, Divyanshu and Muskan Miglani.

Speaking on the importance of mother tongue, Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director of AIMETC expressed, “International Mother Language Day encourages linguistic and cultural diversity. The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Multilingual Education’, which is an essential step forward in this direction.” He further added that the quiz helped students analyse their command over their mother tongue and help appreciate the richness as well as beauty of their language and literature.
