Why inculcating moral values are essential?

Swami Vivekananda had once remarked, “We want the education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.” Rightly so, the very purpose of education is not to fill man with information, but to give him/her the understanding to make sense of the knowledge received, in order to lead a peaceful life.

Keeping in mind the vision of Swami Vivekananda on education, Apeejay School, Charakhi Dadri, conducted a workshop on ‘Moral Values’ for students of classes 6 to 8. The workshop began with an introduction to moral values and delineated some golden thoughts for students to adhere to and apply in their daily lives.

It was followed by an interactive discussion on what constitutes moral values and how adhering to them could facilitate all to evolve as better human beings and create a positive atmosphere.

Students further learned about the importance of embodying moral values. They learned that by being respectful, responsible, honest, truthful, kind, and caring they can play an active role in creating a better world. Various examples were demonstrated to make young learners understand how moral values play a crucial role in helping a person in choosing between right and wrong.

Speaking about the workshop, Teacher-in-charge Ms Anita Singh said, “Good manners are just like the fragrance which engulfs everyone around with pleasing feelings. It makes one endearing to everyone. Good manners are an essential part of one’s overall growth. It holds a mirror to our personality.” She further added, “I would like to mention the often repeated lines, ‘Treat others the way you want to be treated and be an example for all’. Everybody loves a person who is good mannered. Good manners help one to grow up as a cheerful, polite, thoughtful, genuine and co-operative person. Good manners help one to achieve success in life. It is a must.”

In order to make honest, credible, and fair judgments as well as be a part of happy relationships, moral values along with self-awareness is crucial.  The students were also put across various interesting questions on moral values and they enthusiastically sought their answers.

The workshop concluded with a storytelling session which reinforced moral values in the students. The students were extremely happy to share their experiences of life wherein by acting on a good value they had helped or been helped by someone. It was a very successful workshop and ended on a successful note.
