Apeejay School International (ASI), South Delhi, believes in the importance of reading for the holistic development of children. Through extensive and varied resources, the IB school has been inculcating the habit of reading among students.

As part of its curriculum, ASI has identified reading as a key area for developing Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills. These skills are designed primarily for IB Middle Year Programme (MYP) students in a way that can be applied across curriculum requirements.

Nurturing a love of reading and becoming a life-long learner are some of the most important traits a person can develop. And so, the school organised a special assembly this month for MYP students on the “Benefits of Reading”. It was conducted virtually by academic librarian Ms Bhavna.

In the session, the students shared their experiences on how reading helped them personally as well as in school.

“Reading a book is like breathing fresh air. A reader can relate to the characters in a story and on top of all they can control the pace of the book which makes it all the more enjoyable. When you read about other people’s lives and their experiences you’re more likely to identify with them. Reading books have the power to change lives, open minds, and teach new things.  It affects your life because you gain knowledge from every book that you read,” Ms Bhavna said.

Apeejay is among the leading international day boarding schools in Delhi with state-of-the-art infrastructure. The school’s philosophy is focussed on delivering high quality, internationally acclaimed curriculum centered on academic rigour and all-round development of the child in all dimensions, physical, mental, and spiritual, within local and global contexts using innovative pedagogical approaches.
