Jaiveer Sehgal, a class 9 student at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg in Jalandhar, is a Bollywood buff. Like most of us, he too loves it when Shah Rukh Khan opens his arms and gives his signature pose. However, what makes him special is the fact that the teenager has taken his passion to the next level by making many stellar sketches of Bollywood stars.  In this week’s Apeejay Aspiring Artist Series, the boy from Jalandhar speaks about his passion for B-town stars and the details of sketching their portraits. Read edited excerpts:

When did you start drawing, Jaiveer?

I started free-hand drawing at the age of 6 years. And since then, it has been a wonderful journey. Drawing not only gives me joy, but also amazes me as I see so much creativity inside me.

Which art form is your favourite?

I love sketching and I practice only that. It is my favourite activity to sketch faces. Sketching gives me immense peace and calmness.

How does your school support you as an artist?

My school teachers and my parents are my greatest supporters. I am thankful to my school teachers for their constant encouragement towards my passion for art.

How much time does it take to finish a sketch?

I rarely look at the clock when I am sketching. I enjoy it so much. But I feel it takes me about an entire day to complete one sketch.

You do a lot of sketches of only Bollywood heroes. Any particular reason behind it?

Like everyone else, I am a big fan of Bollywood. I too have the filmy bug inside me as I too have grown up on Bollywood movies. Therefore, I love making sketches of only Bollywood actors, as I love their movies.

Which Bollywood celebrity is your favourite? How many sketches have you made of them?

The Baadshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, is my favourite like most people of the country. I love all his movies. I have made 8 sketches of King Khan so far.

Which star is the easiest to sketch and whose sketch is most difficult?

Shahrukh Khan is the easiest to sketch while Akshay Kumar is the most difficult.

On whom is your next sketch going to be?

It is going to be on Bollywood’s ‘Bhaijaan’, Salman Khan!

Tell us about your further plans in art?

I want to convert my passion into my profession, as soon as my studies are completed.

Other hobbies apart from art?

I like to listen to music as it relaxes me as well as gives me new ideas regarding sketching.
