Situated in the heart of Jalandhar with appreciation for meaningful value addition, Apeejay School, Model Town, through active participation, organised Bharat Raksha Parv. It was more than just an activity but a lesson with great depths for inculcating the spirit of compassion and patriotism, something intrinsic to this school.

The thread and activity of card-making by the children for the country’s brave soldiers truly brought jubilation to the hearts. Small hands at work and quite an aesthetic sight, the creation of symbols such as rakhis and greeting cards, pouring respect, admiration, and love into every piece. These rakhis are not threads but the bond of gratitude, bound to be tied across the wrists of the soldier, so that they may remember that the country’s youth is so tender because of their sacrifice.

The students learnt, through participation, what ‘gratefulness’ and ‘respect’ truly meant. There is so much more of a learning experience beyond books and instructions, thus being very real in creating patriotism at its core. That taught them about our soldiers — who laid their lives for this country and its people — and the need to be grateful toward these soldiers in very small but effective ways.

 Creative Acts of Compassion

Since the very inception of Apeejay School, Model Town, it has upheld the spirit to groom such values in children that shall not only empower them to be compassionate but responsible citizens. The event was a show of the very values deeply ingrained in the school’s philosophy, creative not at schooling but in building character. It was almost breathtaking as the level of dedication and creativity that the children came up with was a lot like the efforts in inculcating these virtues, alongside others, that have been prevalent in the school and which are a runaway success.

An event that appraised once more the fact that probably a mere activity of making a rakhi can close the gap between the young and old, civilian and military personnel, — it reminds ones that respect and love for those safeguarding our frontiers comes without a barrier.

In the end, Bharat Raksha Parv was nothing but a step by Apeejay School, Model Town. It was an in extenso manifestation of the ideals that this temple of learning stands for. This was one such occasion for parents, teachers, and students to feel proud. Schools like Apeejay mould certain empathetic and patriotic values in future students, not just through academics.
