After studying Commerce in school, Lakshay’s only dream has been to get a job at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and he has been quite focused on his pursuit. The first-semester student is now studying BBA in Financial Markets at Apeejay Stya University (ASU). In an interview, Lakshay and his mother Geeta talk about their first visit to the university campus, Lakshay’s interest in Finance, and more. Edited excerpts:

How did you decide to pursue a BBA from Apeejay Stya University?

Geeta: The university is very close to our house. Besides, we had heard that the faculty there is very good.

Lakshay: My mother and I visited ASU where we had an in-depth counselling session. Our first visit to the campus was a good experience.

What made you opt for a BBA in Financial Markets?

Lakshay: I aspire to get a job in the banking sector. I have always been interested in Finance, so I was sure about pursuing this BBA course.

Geeta: My son has clear goals, and as a mother, I am there to support him. Putting undue pressure on a child to pursue something only because his or her parents want it does not bring good results.

You spent some time at the university campus. Tell us about your experience.

Lakshay: We had offline classes for about two months. It was an exciting experience. Besides the classes, the faculty members were there to solve our doubts and guide us at all times. This continues even in the online mode. As far as extra-curricular activities are concerned, I played with the college cricket team on Sports Day, and look forward to more such opportunities once the offline classes resume.

Would you say the curriculum offers a blend of theoretical and practical learning?

Lakshay: Not just the textbooks, our classes involve working on case studies that give us a better understanding of the subject. The professor usually explains a topic with practical examples. Thanks to the way the faculty is preparing us for the industry, I got an internship opportunity with Insplore Consultants recently. Our faculty member Manish Sharma sir helped me prepare for the interview. He encouraged us to attend several webinars, organised practical classes, took mock interviews, and so on.

Geeta: I see him attending the online classes. We are awaiting his semester results to see how well he has progressed.

What are your plans after BBA?

Lakshay: My aim is to get into the banking sector, preferably the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It has been my dream since class 11. I have already started preparing for the RBI Grade B exam with the help of online resources, YouTube videos, and so on.

Geeta: I would be very happy if my son is able to secure a government job.
