‘They work’: Poem by Bhavit Vatta, Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park

Published

on

On the rise of the solemn day

Oh they wake in a land of rays

Brimming sun through cotton clouds

Rays that pierce the thickest of boughs

On this day we thank the men

Who sought the lands and bought us the wheat

To lay our hunger at their feet

The wheat they brought

Did not fill our hearts

The greed was more

And the seed was far

So, we began dishonouring men

Who brought us food

Who built our dens

But echoes haunt where thanks should have been

Now we stand with grateful hands

To thank the men who grew our lands

And fed our needs

Such honourable men!
