The emotional, social, and academic aspects of a child’s development are interconnected within the school environment, creating a space where they can learn, grow, and feel a sense of belonging, asserts Anuja Agarwal, mother of Kohana Dutta Choudhury and Aishi Dutta Choudhury who are studying in class XII and V respectively at Apeejay School, Noida.

Excerpts from the interview

Why did you select Apeejay as an admission choice?

The curriculum and academic structure at Apeejay is top class. Apart from that the conglomerate holds a significant history in the education sector in terms of their performances. This school also reminds me of my school days, I see how basic morals and values are taught to children which is so commendable. I decided that time to put Kohana in this school and later on for my younger child the decision stayed the same.

How are the teachers at this school?

As my elder one, Kohana grew older and went to the higher classes, I observed that the teachers established a wonderful connection with the students. They take special effort with each child. The teachers of the senior elementary level are superbly hardworking, if there is any doubt a child has they are always up for finding a suitable resolution to the problem and their personal touch is something that is of prime importance.

What about the balance between extracurricular activities and studies?

The school organises plenty of stage activities every month that involve children. The festival celebrations are also something my daughters look forward to participating in. Outdoor activities include swimming, basketball, football are a hit amongst students. Kohana particularly finds the calligraphy classes very interesting and enjoys them.

How has Apeejay made an impact upon your children?

Both my daughters have become independent since the time they started going to the school. Moreover, I feel a girl should be fiercely independent in their lives and I am extremely glad that both my daughters have inculcated this virtue so well. Reasoning abilities, hardworking, being truthful are other positive qualities that they have developed in their characters owing to this school.

How do you interact with your children?

In general, I ask both my daughters about how their day goes at the school and what all did they learn on a regular basis. And I always encourage them to openly discuss anything or everything that might be distressing them or confusing. I like to keep my communication open with them at all times. Besides that I also advise them to share things with their teachers at the school. My elder one is more comfortable discussing things with her class teacher.

Any special techniques teachers use here?

The staff organises educational excursions regularly that are really helpful for my children from a very young age. I remember Kohana was taken for a walk to the Mother Dairy along with other students to teach them how the milk industry works. Such great activities really go a long way in building a holistic personality of a child.
