The Art of Man-making: ‘I felt incredibly honoured and humbled on receiving this award’

At Apeejay School, Kharghar, education transcends academics, nurturing students into compassionate and value-driven individuals. This year, the prestigious Dr. Stya Paul Award for Human Values, honouring students who exhibit exceptional integrity and a commitment to humanity, was conferred upon Jivika Vissu, a Class 10 student. In a heartfelt  conversation, Jivika shared her journey and thoughts on receiving this esteemed recognition.

How did you feel when you were conferred with the Dr. Stya Paul Award for Human Values?

I felt incredibly honoured and humbled. It was a surreal moment, one that I will always cherish. This award resonates deeply with my core beliefs—kindness, peace, and spreading joy. It motivates me to continue living by these values and inspiring others to do the same.

What qualities does one need to be nominated for this award?

The award recognises those who embody Dr. Stya Paul’s principles—respect, kindness, empathy, and a love for humanity. It’s about standing out with inherent goodness in a world that often overlooks these qualities.

What makes this award special to you?

It celebrates human values in a world focused on material success. The award not only acknowledges individuals committed to kindness and integrity but also inspires others to lead with compassion.

Could you share the selection process for this award?

It began with an interview in the principal’s office, where I answered questions honestly. A few days later, selected students took a test focused on values. The winners were then announced in a school assembly honouring Dr. Stya Paul.

In your opinion, what is the most essential human value?

Kindness. It’s the foundation of hope and humanity, fostering positivity and making a difference in our lives and the lives of others.

How do you plan to extend these values outside the classroom?

By leading through example—being kind, respectful, and proactive in supporting the community. Advocating for what’s right, embracing diversity, and fostering empathy will be my steps to creating a compassionate world.

What inspires you most about Dr. Stya Paul’s life?

His resilience and unwavering commitment to education despite challenges inspire me deeply. His dedication to empowering society through education is a legacy I aspire to carry forward.
