Tamanna, a 12th-grade student at Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, recently received the esteemed Dr. Stya Paul Award for Human Values, a recognition bestowed upon students who demonstrate exemplary human values, integrity, and leadership. In a heartfelt conversation, Tamanna shared her views on human values, her inspiration, and the journey that led her to this achievement. Her insights reveal a deep understanding of integrity, personal growth, and a commitment to serving society.

Here’s what she had to say:

Tamanna, how did you feel upon hearing that you were awarded the Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values?

Honestly, when my teacher first told me, I was overjoyed! Then, speaking to our principal about it, I felt so honoured and truly grateful. This award represents values I’ve always tried to embody, and it was amazing to be recognised in this way.

In your view, what role do human values play in a person’s life?

I believe human values are innate; they are part of who we are from the beginning. Qualities like honesty and integrity are not acquired but are something you carry within you. Being genuine and treating others respectfully has always been important to me.

What qualities do you feel helped you earn this award?

I think being an open book helped. I’m the same person with everyone, whether it’s my friends, teachers, or family. This transparency defines me—I don’t have two sides to my personality. I value real connections and being true to myself.

Could you tell us about the selection process for this award?

It was quite thorough! First, my friends informed me about my nomination. Then I went through rounds of interviews, with a panel asking me many questions about real-life situations and values. After that, there was a written test where I had to discuss qualities I admired in Dr. Stya Paul. The whole process helped me reflect deeply on my values.

Finally, is there someone who inspires you in your life?

Absolutely, it’s my mother. She left her professional life in a big city to live in Charkhi Dadri for our family. Her selflessness and kindness deeply inspire me. I hope to carry these values forward, just as she has.
