“It was purely coincidental!” laughs Arnav Bansal on scoring the same percentage marks as her sister Jahnvi Bansal in the CBSE term 1 board exam. The siblings have topped their school, Apeejay Pitampura, with 99. 5 per cent.

Adds Jahnvi, “It is great otherwise one of us would have felt bad.” According to the brother and sister, what worked best for them was preparing for the exam together. “We coordinated about what all topics we had to study and in how much time. We shared knowledge constantly,” says Arnav, adding how “gaining such fame in school for the first time is a very big deal” for him.

Nitya Arora, who also scored 99.5 per cent, said, “I was amazed to see my score. Now I will work even harder on maintaining the same score in term II as well. I have already started preparing for it. I was expecting full marks in maths, social science and science. But when I got 40 out of 40 in English as well, I was amazed. I would definitely like to thank my teachers who with their years of experience guided us well on which sections to focus on, not to mention how well they taught us overall.”

While being happy about scoring 99 per cent, Rohansh Mahajan, another class 10 student from the school, says the marks were quite unexpected. “My parents are very happy; all my relatives have also been calling to congratulate me.”

Despite having attended classes in the online mode, Rohansh did not face any difficulty in preparation, he says. “Online classes do not make much of a difference if you are equally attentive in class as compared to offline classes. Teachers’ assistance is as important as self-study. The suggestions that they shared with us helped us a lot in the board exam. They have years of experience in this field, so their advice matters a lot.”

What further worked in their favour were the three pre-board exams held by the school. “With pre-boards, our syllabus was completed way in advance. Now, I just keep revising for 1-1.5 hours every day and that is enough,” Rohansh says.

Jahnvi mentions, “Initially, online classes felt very different. But our school ensured that we did not feel like we were distanced. The online classes were very well planned. Our teachers were our constant support. We could reach out to them at any moment for any doubt. The pre-board exams gave us the chance to revise the syllabus regularly and be prepared in advance for the final exam.”

Another student Shreyas Chhabra, who scored 98.5 per cent, says he is excited about term II of the board exams. “I am feeling great. Although my exam went well, I had never really expected such high marks,” he adds.

So, how did these bright minds prepare for the exam? Sharing tips, Shreyas says, “I think you should listen to your teachers. Start from the beginning and study a little every day. I studied mostly from NCERT. Other than that, our teachers at Apeejay Pitampura helped a lot through different exercises. So, we followed their instructions. In some subjects, I also did about four-five practice tests. I haven’t always been able to follow a timetable. However, I try my best to complete a task on time.”

“We set small targets for ourselves and work towards accomplishing them. I believe that helps more than setting big goals for one day because in this case, we can keep track of how we are progressing… Exams give you the motivation to work more. But I feel there should be a sense of regularity when it comes to studying,” Jahnvi suggests.

“‘There is no shortcut to success.’ The MCQ-based Term1 CBSE Examinations have literally proved it. It is perseverance, sincerity and hard work which produces winners.”
