Having her hands totally full with three school-going children can be a tedious task. But when the school renders wholehearted support, the burden minimises manifold, expresses Divya Chhatwal, mother of Bhavya, Brinda and Riddhi who study in classes XI, VIII, and IV respectively at Apeejay Noida.
She said that the school has inculcated a mutual feeling of accountability and importance between students and teachers. There is a welcoming attitude flowing in the school and my children never hesitate to share their woes or problems with them.
Excerpts from the interview.
How did you select Apeejay as an admission choice?
After I got my first daughter admitted into Apeejay, I noticed that she was adjusting well at school and I noticed a marked improvement in all these years. Hence, gradually I decided to put her sisters in the same school too. I find the academics and the extracurricular activities standard really high it has helped in the holistic development of my children.
What changes have you seen in your children?
Just like how all the fingers of a hand are not equal, similarly, all three daughters of mine are not at the same level in academics and in their personal interests. Riddhi is strong academically and in other extracurricular activities, therefore school is providing her with enough opportunities to explore. Bhavya on the other hand, faced a problem while selecting the right stream in XI so the teachers supported and counselled her for improvement. And Brinda is a slow learner and academically weak so the teachers have been a constant support for her too and now she is also gradually improving.
How often do you interact with your kids about school?
It’s almost every single day that I take updates about their studies and other related things from my children. Since I pick up and drop my kids to school, the moment they sit in the car, all three will start with their accounts of what they did and learnt at school. I am never unaware of what is happening in the lives of all my three daughters.
Your comments on the balance between academics and extracurricular activities?
The school provides a perfect mix of a great education structure along with extra activities. In fact, my daughter Brinda who is in class VIII is not great at academics but shows a keen interest in cultural activities. So her teachers are always motivating her to participate in more activities that really boost her morale and confidence.
Any best techniques teachers use at school?
Yes. I have observed that their teachers use different approaches to help my children grow and progress. Riddhi is a bright girl so her teachers are always giving her opportunities depending upon her calibre. Brinda is given special assistance by her teachers. She is involved with her remedial classes on Saturdays for the subjects she is weak in. So teachers devote special time to work on her weak areas.
How well do you resonate with the adage – that school is the second home for a child?
It’s definitely true in my case. The teachers have been with me through thick and thin. Having a family means you will go through ups and downs, but whatever the situation may be, the staff has always supported my children. Just recently, there was an untimely death in the family and my kids were at school and we had to get them back home quickly. The teachers and the management were extremely helpful in the entire situation. The whole process was streamlined smoothly and the staff kept us informed about our children’s exit from the school safely.
