Recently, Apeejay School, Pitampura, began its Leadership Programme with an engaging first session led by Dr Jyotsna Bhardwaj. The session marked the beginning of a learning journey centred on understanding leadership and the qualities that enable individuals to guide and inspire others.
Rather than viewing leadership only as a position of authority, the session encouraged participants to understand the thought and responsibility behind it. It introduced them to leadership rooted in self-awareness, purpose, confidence and empathy.
Understanding the qualities of a leader
The session offered participants an opportunity to reflect on what it truly means to lead. Self-awareness formed an important part of the discussion. It encouraged them to understand their strengths, thoughts and actions before attempting to influence or guide others.
Purpose was another key aspect of the session. Participants learnt that leadership becomes more meaningful when actions are guided by a clear sense of direction. Confidence helps a leader take initiative, while empathy allows one to understand and respect the feelings and perspectives of others.

Beginning with reflection and learning
The interactive session gave participants the space to think, learn and look at leadership from a fresh perspective. It also helped them recognise that becoming an effective leader is a gradual process. It requires the willingness to reflect, grow and learn from different experiences.
The programme began on a thoughtful note by placing personal understanding at the centre of leadership. This approach can help participants become more mindful of how their choices and actions affect those around them.
The programme aims to nurture individuals who can inspire others, empower those around them and contribute to positive change.
The first session served as a meaningful starting point for the programme. As participants continue their journey, the focus will remain on learning, growing and leading together.
