Students showcase India’s rich cultural diversity though their dance forms

The primary section of Apeejay School, Nerul grooves with grace, style and energy in the recently conducted inter-house folk dance competition

Primary section of Apeejay School, Nerul has recently organised an Inter-School ‘Solo Folk Dance Competition’ for the junior group, which witnessed enthusiastic and active participation from students. 

The joyous occasion was graced by Ms Somoja Saha, a well-trained Kathak Dancer and owner of the Art and Music academy, Navi Mumbai affiliated to Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh as the judge for the competition.  

On the special occasion, tiny tots performed folk dances from different states of India including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Assam, Rajasthan, Odisha, Kerala and Maharashtra. The grace and style of their performances couldn’t stop the audience from grooving.

The competition was divided into two groups. Group A comprised of the students of classes 3 and 4, whereas Group B comprised students of class 5. From each group, 8 students participated in the competition.

From Group A, Aastha Gugnani of 4B, Ovee Degvekar of 3A, Durva Surve of 3B bagged the first, second and third position, respectively. Meanwhile, Advik Nair of 4A won the consolation prize. Similarly, from Group B, Tithi Barapatre of 5C, Sejal Wankhede of 5B and Akshaj Roshan of 5B won the first, second and third prize, respectively.



“Folk dance competition was a celebration of the vast cultural heritage of India. The performances not only enthralled the audience with the grooving moves of dancers in the ethnic attires on the tunes of traditional songs, but also served a grand treat of the diversity of our great country.”
