Commemorating the country’s freedom from British rule, Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) in Jalandhar conducted a virtual event on Independence Day where students performed patriotic songs and poems. A power-point presentation was also presented to all students glorifying the valour and spirit of the national freedom fighters.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Wing of the college undertook a tree plantation drive at Milk Bar Chowk, Jalandhar where they planted saplings under the guidance of Dr. Sucharita Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor at Apeejay Stya University, (ASU), Sohna, Gurugram (Haryana) and Director, Apeejay Education Society along with Principal, Dr. Neerja Dhingra.

The NSS volunteers also participated in ‘Rashtra Gaan’ – An initiative by the Ministry of Culture to mark “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”. They uploaded their videos singing the National Anthem to be a part of a record including the maximum number of Indians singing the National Anthem together. The college further has been actively running a series of events since January, 2021 to inculcate the spirit of patriotism in students through different cultural activities, quizzes, debates and environmental initiatives.

“I congratulate everyone on Independence Day and salute our freedom fighters, soldiers and Corona warriors. On this auspicious day, we should introspect how far we have come in these 74 years and how much more we need to do for nation building. Independence should be celebrated in spirit and not in slogans. I urge our young brigade to realise their responsibilities towards the nation and contribute their best in making India a superpower.”
