Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan recently launched Ramakrishna Mission’s ‘Awakening’ programme for school students between classes 1 and 5, in a bid to promote the inculcation of good values. It was launched as an initiative geared towards developing children’s overall personality, in line with the philosophy of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Apeejay School, Noida, was among the ones invited by Ramakrishna Mission on the auspicious occasion of the launch, which was held at the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Auditorium, New Delhi. The event was attended by Smriti Samuel, primary incharge, and Vidhi Anand, the school coordinator for Awakening.

Till now, nearly 6000 schools have enrolled in the programme. Ramakrishna Mission, Delhi, has been successfully conducting the Awakened Citizen Programme (ACP) since 2014 for middle school students. As part of ‘Awakening’, Ramakrishna Mission has trained more than 54,000 teachers and more than 10 lakh students, which led educationists and stakeholders to propose a similar programme for primary school students. The insights gained from Awakened Citizen Program (ACP) led to the conclusion that the exposure or right orientation in early childhood will prepare students to absorb the learnings of ACP more easily.

At the event, the education minister graced the occasion as the chief guest and addressed the audience including principals and incharges. Anita Karwal, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, Nidhi Chhibber, Chairperson, Central Board of Secondary Education, Nidhi Pandey, Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, and Purnima Vohra, Education Officer, were the guests of honour.

The launch event provided an enlightening insight into Ramakrishna Mission’s initiative to ensure the intellectual, emotional, aesthetic, ethical and spiritual development of students.
