Mental health and emotional well-being are becoming an important part of conversations around education. Teachers are often among the first adults to notice changes in a student’s behaviour, mood, or participation. With this in mind, Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, recently organised a Capacity Building Programme on Promoting Mental Health and Wellness Among Students.

A platform for professional learning

The programme brought together teachers from different schools and offered them a space to learn, reflect, and exchange best practices. The session focused on the role educators can play in creating classrooms where students feel supported, understood, and emotionally safe.

The programme was conducted by CBSE Resource Persons Ms Dipika Singh and Mr Shins Sebastian. They shared practical strategies to help teachers support students’ emotional well-being and build resilience. The session also addressed the importance of identifying early signs of mental health concerns and responding with sensitivity.

Learning through participation

The programme included engaging discussions and interactive activities. These helped the participating educators understand how mental health support can become part of everyday classroom practices. The resource persons also introduced tools that teachers can use to promote the holistic well-being of learners.

The discussions highlighted that emotional wellness is closely linked to a student’s ability to learn, participate, and build healthy relationships. A supportive classroom environment can give students the confidence to express themselves and seek help when needed.

The programme concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening mental health awareness in schools. The participating educators also reflected on the need to build positive, inclusive, and empathetic learning spaces.

Such programmes help teachers look beyond academic progress and pay closer attention to the emotional needs of students. They also encourage schools to treat mental wellness as a shared responsibility.

The learning from the session can support educators in creating classrooms where students feel secure, valued, and better prepared to face challenges.
