The Annual Sports Day, Pratispardha, was celebrated with great excitement and energy at Apeejay International School, Greater Noida, on October 26, 2024. Students, parents, and teachers gathered early on the school grounds, creating an electric atmosphere of camaraderie, pride, and anticipation under crisp autumn skies.

The event kicked off with a spectacular display of unity and precision as each House Captain led their teams in a synchronised March Past, a grand display of discipline and coordination that set the day’s tone. This was followed by the symbolic torch ceremony, where selected athletes carried the school’s torch, embodying sportsmanship, commitment, and perseverance as they received thunderous applause from the stands.

The Principal Dr Sarita Pande took to the podium for the oath-taking ceremony. She guided students in pledging their commitment to sportsmanship, fairness, and respect, underscoring the school’s values of unity and integrity.

In her address, she reminded everyone of the role sports play in developing not only physical but also mental strength and character. She also paid homage to the school’s Founder-Chairman, Dr Stya Paul, recalling his deep love for sports, especially football, and his belief in sports as a pathway to self-development. As she officially declared the sports day open, a cheer rose from the crowd, and colourful balloons ascended into the sky, marking the beginning of a memorable day.

Vibrant Performances Light Up the Field

The event’s opening performances featured yoga. The students showcased their flexibility, balance, and physical strength, creating shapes and postures that captivated the audience. This was followed by a high-energy Zumba performance that lifted everyone’s spirits as students danced to rhythmic beats. These performances not only highlighted students’ physical skills but also underscored the school’s commitment to a holistic approach to physical education, blending discipline with joy and expression.

As the sporting events commenced, the athletic energy on the grounds intensified. The competitions included a range of track and field events like 100, 200, and 400-metre sprints, hurdle races, relay races, long jump, and ball throw. The young athletes displayed determination and skill; each event was punctuated by cheers from the stands as students, parents, and teachers encouraged them to give their best.

The relay races, in particular, had the audience on the edge of their seats as the baton exchanged hands in a display of teamwork and coordination, a vivid reminder of the unity and camaraderie that defines the school community.

Parents and Teachers Join the Festivities

The spirit of inclusion extended beyond students, as teachers and parents eagerly took part in a series of friendly competitions. From teachers versus parents ‘tug of war’ to a ‘parents’ relay’ and even a Zumba session for the parents, the activities fostered a lively and competitive spirit. The parents’ 100-metre race added a dash of excitement; Surabhi Singh (a mother) showed her speed and dedication and secured first place in this special race.

The culmination of the day’s events saw the award ceremony, where outstanding athletes were recognised for their dedication and accomplishments. The list of winners included young athletes: Bhumi Sharma from class V, who excelled in the Junior Girls’ Hurdle Race, and Gagan Kumar from class III, who emerged victorious in his event.

Other stars of the day included Kunal Bhati of class XII-C, Geetank Singh of class VIII, and Vaibhavi Sharma from class X-A, each securing a win in their respective races. The parents’ relay also saw a winning team comprising Avichal Jain, Abhishek Jain, Shiv Bhardwaj, and Sandeep Maurya, who claimed first place with a display of teamwork and speed.

Dhairya House emerged as the crowd favourite in the Zumba competition, captivating the audience with their energy and coordination, while Lakshya House celebrated the ultimate victory, securing the title of overall champion.

A Unified Spirit of Community and Sportsmanship

Although the Chief Guest, Mr Atul Kumar, SDM, could not attend due to an urgent official meeting, he sent his heartfelt blessings and best wishes to the students, encouraging them to continue pursuing their goals with the same dedication and determination.

In her concluding address, Principal Dr. Pande expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to making Pratispardha a memorable success. In a Vote of Thanks, she acknowledged the students, staff, parents, and event organisers whose combined efforts made this day possible. She applauded the athletes for their achievements, parents for their enthusiastic participation, and teachers for their unwavering support.

Overall, the Annual Sports Day proved to be much more than just a sports day — it was a celebration of community, resilience, and shared joy. As Apeejay International School, Greater Noida, looks ahead, the success of Pratispardha will continue to inspire students, teachers, and parents alike to uphold the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and dedication.
