Mishti Saini, a student at Apeejay School, Model Town in Jalandhar recently wrote a very sweet poem titled Siblings. In the poem, the budding poetess poured her heart out for her brother. Mishti says, “Poetry is the way to express the emotions within.” In this week’s Poet of the Week interview, the nature lover explains how a natural scenery leaves her with emotions to the brim, which form into a verse on the paper.

At what age did you start writing poetry?

Very early, so early that I can’t remember precisely. I must have been four years old when I started writing poetry.

What inspired you to get started?
Nature and its sheer beauty inspired me to write poems. The natural scenery just fills my heart with so many emotions that it is impossible for them not to spill out in the form of words on a paper.

Tell us the thought process behind your poem Siblings?
Through this poem of mine, I would like to convey a beautiful message that my doting brother’s love is more than a heavenly bliss for my soul. This poem is a humble expression of my love for him.

Favourite poet and poem?
My favourite poem is Daffodils and my favourite poet is William Wordsworth. This poem simply tells all the power of nature on the human mind and the immense peace it gives.

Rhyme or free verse?
I prefer rhyming over free verse. Rhyming is so fun!

Writing poems in the day or night?
I generally get some leisure time during the night, so I am a night person.

How does your school help you to write such lovely poems?
I am definitely blessed to have got the best teachers who would always help me to explore my talent to the maximum level. They provide me with the best tips to enhance my writing skills. Plus, different poetry competitions organised by my school sets a perfect tempo for all the students to nurture their inner creativity.

How do you approach writing a poem?
It takes me roughly 30-40 mins to write a poem. Nature and its beautiful glory, then animal folktales and fairytales and also writing on parent’s love, these are my treasured themes.

Best thing about writing poetry for you?
Composing poetry is nothing less than a perfect food for my soul
