PMKVY to upskill lakhs; will boost jobs

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget 2023-24 speech stated that the Centre will launch Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 to skill lakhs of youth in the next three years.

The Indian youth-focused scheme will aid on-job training, industry partnership and alignment of courses with the needs of industries. Further, it will provide new-age courses for Industry 4.0 such as coding, artificial intelligence, robotics, mechatronics, IoT, 3D printing, drone, and other soft skills.

To upskill the country’s youth for international opportunities, the Centre will set up 30 skill India international centres across different states.

According to her, in order to empower the youth and help the `Amrit Peedhi` realise their dreams, the National Education Policy was formulated focussed on skilling and adopted economic policies which facilitate job creation and support business opportunities.

In addition, she said that the digital ecosystem for skilling will be further expanded with the launch of a unified Skill India Digital platform to enable demand-based formal skilling, link with employers including MSMEs and facilitate access to entrepreneurship schemes.
