PMKVY empowers 1.4 crore candidates, focuses on future skills

The Indian government reported that Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), launched in 2015, has successfully trained nearly 1.4 crore candidates to date. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has emphasised PMKVY’s objective of providing short-term skilling opportunities for Indian youth. Additionally, it has announced the India Skills 2023-24 competition to ensure training standards align with global benchmarks.

According to the ministry, over 2.14 crore candidates have undergone future skills training, encompassing areas such as Drones, Robotics, Electric Vehicles (EV), Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and 5G technologies.

The ministry has also highlighted the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, which carries a budget of Rs 13,000 crore. This scheme aims to support artisans nationwide by offering formal training, modernising traditional skills, and providing financial assistance to artisans.
