Along with the fostering of ecological awareness and responsibility, Apeejay Svran Global School, Faridabad in Sector 21-D undertook two giant eco-friendly projects recently – a tree plantation drive and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. These projects were in collaboration with two acclaimed NGOs — Oxygen Trust and Isha Foundation. This vibrant alliance brought a plethora of activities that enriched not only the school’s ambience but also the young minds with the lessons of ecological stewardship.

The school grounds were abuzz with students of Interact Club and Secondary classes planting the seeds for a better future, the morning itself felt alive. With gardening toolkits in their hands and youthful enthusiasm bridled, they plunged into the soil of their campus to plant saplings. Aptly titled, Rooting for a Greener Tomorrow, this drive was not only meant to make the campus a pretty sight but indeed a lesson in the way trees maintain ecological balance in nature.

The representatives from the NGOs and the teachers walked the students through the process, explaining the types of trees being planted and their environmental benefits. The activity was, indeed, a hands-on approach whereby the students would leave with a more in-depth understanding and appreciation of nature’s role in daily life.

Cleaning Hands, Greening Lands: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

After the tree plantation drive, it was time to talk about cleanliness under the banner of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan. This part of the day saw the Interactors combine with the secondary class students once again in a cleanliness drive to clean up the environment. Students during the cleanliness drive learnt about the importance of cleanliness, and its effects on health, and the environment. It instilled responsibilities among the participants to maintain and preserve a clean and healthy environment.

The activities of the day concluded with deliberations on how each student can continue to do more environmental conservation at school and in their respective communities. This helped plant the initiative of sustainability and community service in young minds, promising a greener and cleaner tomorrow.

Developing Eco-Conscious Citizens

These activities prove that Apeejay Svran Global School stands committed to its resolve of raising an eco-sensitive generation. The involvement of NGOs proves to be a strong model for any educational institutes that wish to integrate environmental education with hands-on and community-based activities.

The event once again brings to the fore the school philosophy of learning by doing, building on theoretical knowledge and environmental ethics in students. As this community moves into the future, it is clear that these students do not only progress academically but are moulded into socially wholesome individuals who would approach environmental challenges knowledgeably and with zeal.
