The Directorate of Education (DoE) has instructed Delhi schools to plant at least 1.5 lakh saplings via its Eco Club members. In a letter to the schools, the DoE informed, “1.50 lakh saplings including 40,000 trees and 1.1 lakh shrubs must be planted in all schools for the academic year 2022-23.”

This means that each school should target planting 100 saplings. The directorate has also given instructions to all school principals and staff members to take part in this drive.

In addition, students should help to regularly monitor and maintain the plants. Fifty percent of the target must be achieved by August 15 by all schools for the plantation in all the open areas and available spaces. Saplings can be obtained free of cost by each head of schools from any of the identified nurseries run by the forest department.
