The Culinary Art Activity hosted by Apeejay School, Nerul, recently brought together a delightful mix of creativity, culture, and connection. Designed for students of classes I to V and their parents, the event was a testament to the power of teamwork and a shared passion for cooking.

Participants — teams consisting of one parent and one child — were invited to embark on a unique culinary challenge: Creating delectable dishes from various cuisines, all without the use of flame. According to Nidhi Dubey, the event aimed to promote cross-cultural learning, teamwork, and creativity among students.

“The activity was a unique opportunity for our students to explore the rich culinary heritage of different cultures. The students gained a deeper appreciation for the diversity of global cuisines and developed essential life skills, such as teamwork, time management, and creativity,” she said.

What made this event even more special was the enthusiastic participation of parents, including fathers, who actively engaged in the activity alongside their children, she added. “The response from parents was overwhelmingly positive, praising the school’s efforts to promote cross-cultural learning and family bonding,” the educator shared.

A culinary tour of the world

The global menu featured tantalising dishes representing Indian, South Korean, Japanese, French, and Italian cuisines. From sushi rolls to pasta delights and from Indian street food to French desserts, the array of dishes showcased the teams’ versatility and innovation. Each team was required to prepare at least two dishes, ensuring a vibrant spread of flavours and ideas.

With registrations for this activity closing on November 12, the anticipation was palpable. On the event day, families arrived with pre-prepped ingredients, ready to race against the clock. The challenge wasn’t just about speed — it was about taste, creativity, and presentation.

A feast for the senses

The judging panel had a tough time selecting winners as every dish spoke of passion and effort. The artistic flair of the plating, the intricate blending of spices, and the creativity in presentation captured the judges’ and audience’s admiration alike.

Samyukta Shridhar, a class III student, who participated with her mother Dr Krishna Natarajn said that it was very exciting to participate. “I learnt patience and diligence throughout the activity. Teamwork and healthy competition were a huge factor as well. It was a lovely time to bond with my mother as we cooked.” She said.

A student of class IV, Rayyan Khan, who participated with his mother, said that it was fun to work as a team with my mother. It gave me opportunity to learn about better nutrition and culture awareness. I am looking forward for more such activities,” he shared.

Looking forward to the next culinary adventure

The Culinary Art Activity was a resounding success. This vibrant celebration of food and culture has set the stage for more such innovative events at Apeejay School, Nerul. Families are already looking forward to the next delicious adventure!
