Mishti Saini, a student with Apeejay School, Model Town, is a lovely artist. She has a natural neatness and skill which is evident in all her artworks. Be it paintings or drawings, Mishti seems to be mastering the art forms quickly enough. In this week’s Aspiring Artist interview, the promising artist speaks of her passion for drawing and how Madhubani and Warli art forms are the next one in her bucket list. Read edited excerpts:

Since when did you start drawing?

I started drawing when I was three years old. I used to make greeting cards with drawings on them for my parents, friends, and I also had a small sketchbook. Sometimes I even doodled on the back of my books. Until I was 5 years or so, I drew only cartoons but then I started realising that drawing was my passion, so I began giving it my fullest and I’m happy to say that I am improving with every drawing. Hopefully, I’ll become a big artist one day!

What’s your favourite art form and why?

Painting is my favourite form of art. It improves my concentration, develops critical thinking skills, and enhances fine motor skills. Painting gives me an opportunity to express my feelings and even the most profound emotions so simply.

How does your school support you as an artist?

I am blessed to have such a nice school with such caring teachers, who always consider my drawings and appreciate my craft. This encourages me to improve with every single work of art.

What is art for you?

Art is something that stimulates an individual’s thoughts, emotions, beliefs and ideas through the senses.

How much time does it take you to complete an artwork?

It takes me approximately 35-45 minutes to complete an artwork. My common themes of art are nature’s beauty and spirituality.

Upcoming artworks?

I am currently working on Mandala art. It is great fun!

A new art form you wish to learn?

I wish to learn Madhubani and Warli art forms. These art forms are so beautiful that I am just captivated by a single glance.

Lastly, other hobbies apart from art?

My hobbies apart from art include skating, swimming, poetry and playing badminton. I will also be going for the state level skating championship. Not only this, I am also a National level UCMAS abacus champion.
