International Girls Child Day is observed every year on 11 October to raise awareness about gender equality based on education, nutrition, medical care, legal rights and safeguard girls from any kind of discrimination in an attempt to empower each girl in the society.

In line with this thought, students and teachers of National Service Scheme (NSS) Wing, Department of Fashion Makeover and Department of Applied Art at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar recently observed the International Girl Child Day. The goal was to  empower and amplify the voices of young girls across the society.

Marking this day, a fair was organised within the college campus where students were given a special opportunity to explore and have a unique experience under ‘Earn while learn scheme’.

Considering the theme of the festive season, ACFA students displayed innovative stalls such as portrait making, nail art, mehendi, home decor items, wall hangings, and more.

Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, inaugurated the event and appreciated the efforts of students and their mentors. Expressing her views on the occasion she said, “The society which value girls, their education and their rights, grow and develop more than the one which does not. In these contemporary times, investing in girls’ education and empowering them can act as a solid investment for the developed nation. It’s high time that society needs to shed its orthodox views and flow with the changing times, where they should perceive girls as equal to the other gender. ”

At the end, she congratulated Dr. Simkee Dev, Dean of NSS, Ms. Meenal Sandhu from Department of Fashion Makeover, Mr Anil Gupta and other faculty members from Department of Applied Art for successfully organising the entire event.
