Students pursuing architecture and design are more often than not great at atwork. But Kartikay Singh, a student with Apeejay Institute of Technology School of Architecture & Planning (AIT-SAP) in Greater Noida, is more of an artist than just being good at art. His 3D wall mural artwork is a clear example of that.

Rightfully earning his place in this week’s Apeejay Aspiring Artist of the week interview, let us read what the young turk has to say about his gift.  Read edited excerpts:

Since when did you start drawing seriously Kartikay?

I started drawing with a genuine passion around class 9. As I was really fascinated by the world of cars and wanted to design a few of my own.

Impressive! So which art form is your favourite and why?

Sculptures and 3-D murals are my favourite forms of art. These forms give me the freedom to play with different materials and express my ideas more creatively and uniquely.

And how does AITSAP encourage you as an artist?

My college faculty is so supportive and guides us all students whenever we need their advice or help. Their support really means a lot to my artistic journey.

So, how would you define art?

For me art is an expression of what I feel after observing something! That is when the creative process begins!

How much time does it take you to complete an artwork?

Depending on the size and complexity of the artwork it can take me anywhere from 3 hours to 6 hours on an average day.  I love working most on themes that revolve around astronomy and oceans. I feel that is my area of interest.

And what are you painting at the moment?

An acrylic glass painting. It is taking some time, care, patience and deftness. But it is all worth it in the end.

What’s one new artform you wish to learn?

I really wish to learn lippan art. It has captivated me for a long time and I want to explore and experiment in it.

Finally, tell us about your hobbies beyond art?

I am really interested in robotics and automobiles. Not hard to guess as I am a design student. This is a great field of interest for me.
