No Bag Days are important in schools as they create an opportunity for students to explore learning beyond textbooks. These days focus on experiential learning, creativity, and life skills, allowing children to develop holistically in a fun and engaging environment.
Apeejay School, Kharghar, organised a vibrant No Bag Day for classes I and II. The event aimed to promote joyful learning through various enrichment activities, as recommended by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The day started with shloka chanting session for students’ mental well-being. A storytelling session was held to nurture literacy skills, accompanied by a creative puppet-making activity that allowed students to bring their stories to life. A group dance followed, captivating everyone with the students’ impressive choreography and synchronisation.

“No Bag Day’ was a resounding success. Looking at their enthusiasm and joyful stature, brought us a sense of satisfaction. This day allowed us to teach the children about ‘Good Touch and Bad Touch’, an important and sensitive topic. Activities like dance, puppet making, and sandwich making were enjoyable to the students. As teachers, we too had a stimulating day, enjoying our time with our students, and teaching them something different from our normal schedule,” quoted Ms Sushmalatha Phinehas, coordinator of Class 1.
In addition to creative activities, students also participated in a sprouts salad-making session, encouraging healthy eating habits.
“She had just recovered from sickness and hence was super duper excited to go to school since she knew it’s a No Bag Day. She came home happy describing the activities she did in school using ice cream sticks for the puppet activity. Also she explained in great detail about the good touch and bad touch workshop that was held in school. She was very excited to carry her favourite soft toy to school and is looking forward for more such No Bag Days in school. I am glad Aayra experienced such a beautiful day in school. Thank you team Apeejay,” says the mother of Aayra Maggu, student of Class 1-A.

The day ended with an exciting football match between various classes, where students enthusiastically displayed their teamwork and athletic skills. With active participation and a variety of thoughtfully curated activities, the event was a resounding success, contributing to the overall development of the students.
